In the birth of Jesus Christ, God took on human flesh and lived among us. He took on degraded human nature and subjected Himself to human cruelty, bringing dignity back to all of Creation. For Him to become one of us was – and is – the only way for us to become one with Him.

 

The Virgin Mary, referred to as Theotokos (birthgiver of God), holds an honored place among the Saints of the Church. We believe Jesus was born of her through the power of God’s Holy Spirit – and that she thus gave birth to Him while remaining a virgin.
