August 6
Jesus took Peter, James, and John to the top of Mount Tabor, where he was then transfigured: “His face shone like the sun, and his garments became white as light. And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Eli’jah, talking with Him.” Matthew 17:2-3.
This Feast Day marks the first time any of the disciples saw the glory and majesty of the Kingdom of God present in the person of Jesus Christ. It is important that this event takes place before the Crucifixion, so that the disciples realize who it is who will suffer for them, and so that they also receive a foretaste of the Kingdom to come.
